Don’t let the urgent put a stop to what’s important
BTW it’s you, you’re what’s important!
I am always campaigning for you to make yourself a priority and to make your workouts the most important thing you do in a day, while at the same time I watch women be afraid to plan a workout “just in case something crops up" or listen to the 24 reasons they didn’t come for a workout last month.
Goals // Expectations // Standards
Your Goal: what you want to happen, where you want to end up, your ideal scenario, what you are AIMING for.
Your Expectation: what you predict will be the reality (always lower than the goal… until you actually achieve your goal).
Your Standards: what is acceptable to you, where do you draw your line, what actions and commitments are you asking of yourself?
Take only great memories
However you’ve been spending these days I want to encourage to take only great memories , joy and gratitude from the last few days into 2025.
You have nothing to make up for or undo, you haven't been bad; whether you spent too much, ate too much, drank too much or didn’t move enough hopefully you had a great time!
Your self worth is not negotiated with others
Don’t walk through the world looking for evidence that you don’t belong, because you will always find it.
Don’t walk through the world looking for evidence that you’re not enough, because you will always find it.
Our worth and our belonging are not negotiated with other people.
Vision Board for 2025
We’ve got a big day planned here today – it’s our Vision Board Day and today all of the Coaches put together a vision of what we would like 2025 to look like.
It’s great fun, we go crazy cutting and gluing, then we’re going axe throwing!
But back to the point here…
Take a minute, Christmas is only 2 days
If you are starting to find yourself a little stressed about a certain upcoming festival…
If you’re already overwhelmed with all the things you’re feeling you MUST do…
If you’re sacrificing workouts, or putting off coming back, or putting off joining…
How’s your attitude?
How’s your attitude?
Or rather, attitudeS, because you can have different attitudes about different things.
Changing how you think and feel about something could change everything for you.
It’s Time to be Kinder (to yourself!)
I have been SO guilty of this in the past. I’m not saying I’m totally over it now. But women are just SO hard on themselves about weight. About the numbers on the scales. It really upset me when I see how much the ladies at Curves criticise themselves when we do Coaching and Accountability. I was doing another lady’s measurements last month and glanced up to see the ladies waiting and they both looked so sad. So ready to criticise and slate themselves.
Why do we do this?
Focus on the machine that you are on
I can change your workout with just 7 words.
It's so simple, you'll likely read this and then just forget about it.
But seriously, don't!
You want results - your results lie in feeling the benefit of the machines, that is FEELING the muscles working.
“Whatever you are doing in this decade is going to help you in your next”
There’s absolutely no doubt that our bodies change when we go through the menopause or as we near it. It’s not an “illness”. It just happens to us all and some ladies sail through it and some ladies really suffer mentally and physically.
There are days when I jump out of bed and could clean the house from top to bottom and there are other days when I think everything aches and I cannot get going. Yes this is ME! Tigger!
Screen Time Notification
We all know that making the time to workout can feel tough, it IS tough sometimes.
It’s something that is always highlighted to me when I speak to new members and see the change in how they schedule their time.
Which brings me back to my conversation with Emma (who I mentioned in last week’s email).
Ask The Right Question
I got some great replies to last week’s email, thanks everyone!
This week I’m going feature Kaz’s reply because she got it spot on and I want you all to hear what she said.
“It’s not can I do a workout, but when!!!” (those exclamation marks are all hers cos she really means it 😎)
Whether you get your workouts, or not, is literally all in your head.
Using words like “if I can make it”, or “can I fit it in”, or “have I got time” will mean that your brain will look for an answer, and our brains are not very good at spotting things that aren’t there (i.e. gaps in your schedule).
What’s on your “to-feel” list?
How do you want to FEEL today (or tomorrow or the next day)
Motivated? Energised? Calm? Empowered? Healthy? Ready for anything? Loved? Appreciated? Noticed?
Get it written on a “To-feel” list.
What do you need to do to feel like that? Now you have your action AND your motivation.
There is no finish line!
There are many reasons to exercise. (Dannii and I talk extensively about them here).
Keeping going with your exercise habit, well, that can be tough one.
And here’s the reason.
There is no finish line.
It never ends.
It never gets easier.
You get Stronger.
You get fitter.
Hopefully you’ll be able to work or play harder, faster, longer.
It’s not about the workouts!
Building yourself a robust habit of 3 workouts a week at Curves is EVERYTHING – whether you want to sleep better, get great Smart® results, have more energy, increase your metabolism, laugh more, improve your Strength, improve your physical and mental health or simply feel like you are deteriorating less!
When half a decision is enough
Anyway, your replies got me thinking, especially Dawn W’s (thank Dawn).
Some of you pointed out that you often come for your workout on “half a decision”, and often those are the best workouts (which reminded me that I’ve had that particular phenomenon on my list for an email or a blog post for some time now so stand by for that coming up - I digress)!
The fact is, when you come in on those days you didn’t feel like it, when you come because you feel you should, when you are only halfway to being ready – you’re always glad you did.
Resistance is futile…
We know it can be a big step walking in our door for the first time, the first time in a while or sometimes on any given day.
When new member Julia came for her second workout this week she reminded me that we are all just one decision away from achieving our goals.
I asked her “Are you ready for this?”
She replied “Oh I’m ready, I’ve decided.”
Did you celebrate your progress with a coach this week?
Did you celebrate your progress with a Coach this week? Do you find it easy to spot your wins? Or are you focused on that number (probably on the scale) and continually disappointed?
If you’ve been disappointed this week, or struggle to see your success and small achievements then I’ve been thinking about you a lot this week, because I’ve been wondering, why so hard on yourself?
Task VS Purpose
Task = housework
Purpose = a clean and relaxing home
Task = 30-minute workout at Curves
Purpose = develop lean muscle, increase metabolism, balance hormones, burn fat, maintain joints, reduce risk of preventable disease, be Stronger, sleep better, regulate emotions, calm racing thoughts, destress, reduce cortisol, see friends, laugh, be fitter, be fit enough to enjoy life, live longer, increase energy…
Determination always pays off!
Determination always pays off.
Stick with what you are doing.
Don’t let comparing yourself to others drag off a path that you know is right for you.
