Progress in the pause
I was working with a member last night looking at the PI Challenge data and discussing the amazing progress everyone has made and I was reminded of something very important, and I want to share it with you
This member had increased her score on the machines by a decent amount and I said to her, if I was you my goal now would be to keep it there for at least a month before I even think about trying to increase it again.
And I realised that we are surrounded by encouragement to do more and be more, and that’s great! We do it all the time here at Curves because we want you all to be take up your space in the world.
BUT (and this is the unpopular opinion part)
One of the most important parts of the process of getting better, doing more and being Stronger is consolidation.
Sometimes it’s not just OK to stay where you are, or even to backslide a little, it’s imperative.
If you continue to push to run faster, earn more, push a heavier weight – eventually you will explode.
While we all have the capacity to push ourselves out of our comfort zone and improve on something we should all keep in mind staying right where we are for a bit is beneficial too. I’m not talking about stopping or giving up after all.
I guess what it boils down to is consistency. When you’ve pushed for a big change or progress, keep doing that thing rather push for more and more.
Keep doing that thing, at least until it becomes second nature.
Then, you’ll be ready to go to the next level, or you’ll realise you’re happy right where you are.
